Solar Selfies Bring Light To Tallahassee

Local marketing firm donating to The Kearney Center for each eclipse selfie

(Tallahassee, Fla.)  A Tallahassee-based marketing firm will take advantage of the darkness created by Tuesday’s solar eclipse to shed light on the problem of homelessness in Florida’s capital city by launching a solar selfie campaign. BowStern Marketing Communications, a fully-integrated firm that regularly participates in community giveback, is asking area residents to post pictures of themselves during the eclipse to social media using #SolarSelfie. The company will donate five dollars for each solar selfie posted to Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to The Kearney Center, the comprehensive emergency service center serving the Big Bend region.

“Total solar eclipses are exciting but also incredibly rare,” said Kelly Robertson, CEO and cofounder of BowStern. “Unfortunately, homelessness isn’t rare in our city, but The Kearney Center and their partners are doing incredible work to change that. Our solar selfie campaign is intended to allow folks to have fun during the eclipse but also do some good for others in the community.”

Area residents can participate in the fundraiser by posting pictures of themselves outside during the eclipse. For each post on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter using #SolarSelfie, BowStern will donate five dollars to The Kearney Center.

The Kearney Center has served more than 2,200 people in 2017, providing emergency shelter, meals, medical assistance and counseling. The facility, located on Municipal Way, is designed to be an all-inclusive stop that addresses the root causes of homelessness for the center’s clients. With their 15 on-site partners and 27 program and class providers, The Kearney Center helps men, women and families from eight counties across North Florida.
