BowStern Builds More Than Brands

Marketing firm spends day working with Habitat for Humanity construction crew

(Tallahassee, Fla.)  Employees and interns of BowStern Marketing Communications, a fully integrated marketing firm headquartered in Tallahassee, spent the day in Midway, Florida, working on a home for Habitat for Humanity. Crew members put down their laptops and picked up hammers as part of the firm’s quarterly day of community service. By lunchtime, staffers had laid shingles on half the roof, insulated the home’s interior and installed siding on the rear of the house.

“When we started this company, community service and using our time, talent and treasure to help others were at the top of our list of priorities,” said Tom Derzypolski, President and co-founder of BowStern. “I believe communities are transformed by the citizen leaders that can be found everywhere doing great deeds. True, comprehensive transformation occurs when ordinary people do extraordinary things to serve each other.”

In addition to closing the office for service days, BowStern encourages staff members to volunteer with local charities and provides time off work to do so. As a part of their association with BowStern this year alone, staff members have read to at-risk children, fed the homeless, collected food for the hungry and – now – helped build a home. The company also assists non-profits whenever possible and is currently working with the Anthony Phoenix Branca Foundation, winner of Project Mayday.

“While Project Mayday focused on donating $100,000 of marketing services to a non-profit in need, there was something deeply personal about helping to physically build someone’s home,” said Kelly Robertson, APR, CEO of BowStern. “Our crew was touched by this experience with Habitat for Humanity, and it served as a tangible reminder of the importance and impact that giving back in personal ways can have.”
