Florida Housing Finance Corporation

forty years & full funding

Despite celebrating 40 years of service, Florida Housing Finance Corporate (Florida Housing) was battling low awareness amongst key decision-makers. State legislators didn’t fully appreciate the organization’s value: helping provide affordable homes to deserving Florida residents. In the state agency environment, this lack of understanding has the potential of leading to dreaded budget cuts.

As the Florida House and Senate met to appropriate 2020 funds, and organizations all over the state vied for dollars, BowStern was brought in to help Florida Housing stand out. The goal was to secure full funding of the $370 million Sadowski Housing Trust Fund. This would translate into Florida Housing continuing their strong work of providing affordable housing to those in need.

40 Years: FHFC

BowStern engaged its public relations team to saturate the statewide media market with stories highlighting the importance of affordable housing and emphasizing Florida Housing as the expert in this field. The team also worked with Florida Housing’s Board Chair to draft and distribute an op-ed celebrating the organization’s work and calling on legislators to support the hardworking members of our communities by fully funding the Sadowski Housing Trust Fund.

To complement these efforts, BowStern created mini-Lego houses attached to a print piece that provided key statistics of the more than 2 million Floridians helped over the last 40 years. These unique “leave-behinds” were distributed to all 160 lawmakers in the Florida House and Senate, regardless of their political party or past budgetary voting record.

the result was full funding of the Sadowski Housing Trust Fund – a task that hadn’t been accomplished in 13 years.
